Tamenglong, March 10 2009:
Reiterating its demand to punish the culprits in accordance with the law of the land, the Joint Action Committee against the brutal killing of Dr Th Kishan, Y Token Singh and A Rajen Sharma has expressed strong exception to the demand of one Ukhrul based women organisation namely Hunphun Shinao Long (HSL) that 'befitting punishment should be awarded by the custodians of the culprits.
In a statement, JAC convenor S Subhangker asserted that the whole world knows that the 'custodians' of the culprits are the NSCN (IM) and it is unfortunate that HSL has raised such kind of demand which is contradictory to the demand of the JAC and the public.
The JAC is also shocked by the manner in which the HSL has jumped into wild conclusion that the murder was carried out for 'mere personal economic interest', the JAC said, adding that whereas the people are anxiously waiting for he truth to unfold from the enquiries being carried out at various levels by the State Government and the NSCN (IM), such ambiguity is very much uncalled for at this critical junction.
Nonetheless, the JAC has extended its gratitude and whole-heartedly welcome the support of all sections of the society and civil voluntary organisations of Manipur in the struggle to demand justice over the gruesome triple murder of the three Government employees.
The JAC said that the support of the people of all sections would not only add strength to the present struggled but would also be a milestone in the fight against any kind of injustice in the future.
While sharing its indebtedness particularly to the autorickshaw driver for joining the ongoing protest on March 9, the JAC has also appealed to all the clubs and Leikais to curtail any kind of entertainment during Yaoshang sports and reminded all the organisers of the Yaoshang sports to keep the flag at half-mast, to observe two minute silence, to wear black badges, to carry out debate/symposium competition based on he topic of 'NSCN (IM) Gi Senapati Mihaat Amansung Sarkar Gi Thoudang'.
