Imphal, February 09 2014:
The 129th foundation day of Johnstone Higher Secondary School was observed today at the school campus and it was marked by offering of tributes to the statue of Sir James Johnstone.
The function was graced by MLA Th Shyamkumar, MLA RK Imo and Principal of the school W Chaoba Devi as chief guest, president and host respectively.
Padmasree Awardee Rajkumar Jhaljit, ex-students and ex-staff were also present at the foundation day function.
Speaking at the occasion, MLA RK Imo highlighted the need for construction of a hostel as 60 to 70 per cent of the students studying in Johnstone School are from outside Imphal.
He went on to assure that he would personally take up the matter with Education Minister M Okendro.
Taking serious note of failure of Government school students to secure top positions in common State exams, Principal W Chaoba gave a number of factors such as lack of coordination among parents and teachers, week economic condition of Government school students, lack of interest on the part of parents for proper education of their wards etc.
She further claimed that Government school students fare badly not because teachers do not teach them properly.
She also expressed deep apprehension if Johnstone School would perish unceremoniously although the school is the alma mater of a number of scientists, doctors, civil servants, politicians and academicians.
