SUK Women Welfare grants week's time to punish alleged sexual assault culprit, many condemnations pour in

Condemning the alleged sexual assault of a minor by one ECG technician of RIMS Thokchom Suraj, Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) Women Welfare has warned to take up stringent agitation if the authorities concerned fail to serve fitting punishment to the culprit within a week.
Speaking to media persons at the head office of SUK today, secretary of SUK Women Welfare Nameirakpam Sanuka said that the organisation strongly condemns the inappropriate act carried out by a staff of one of the renowned hospital to a 12 year old girl inside an ECG room.
She continued that the womenfolk will not accept the act of the technician taking advantage of a minor girl by taking her the room without a nurse or an attendant or a guardian.
Urging all departments of RIMS hospital to take utmost care so as to prevent such incidents in the future, she remarked that it is rather unfortunate on the part of the authorities of RIMS hospital for failing to adopt the medical ethics and professionalism.
Demanding the State Government to punish the culprit at the earliest, she added that the culprit should be served ten years sentence as per the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
She further warned that SUK Women Welfare along with other women organisations will take up stringent forms of agitation if the authorities concerned do not serve punishment to the culprit within a week.
On the other hand, Rongmei Lu Phuam (RLP) has strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of the minor girl and demanded befitting punishment for the culprit.
A press release issued by RLP maintained that such incident happening in a hospital is very unfortunate.
It asserted that the authorities concerned should work diligently to create a safe environment for women and children.
It further stated that it is unfortunate and shameful on the part of the authorities of a renowned hospital that there is no female staff or attendant present inside the ECG room.
Meanwhile, North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) has also expressed strong condemnation regarding the alleged sexual assault a minor girl at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal by the institute's ECG technician.
A press release issued by NEFIS Manipur unit stated that while the culprit was apprehended and his job terminated by the hospital administration, the incident shows extreme laxity of the hospital in ensuring security and safety of the patients, especially women.
RIMS has been recently in the news regarding rising incidence of delivery deaths, it noted.
Alleged sexual assault of the girl has again raised the question of safety for patients, especially women, at RIMS.
NEFIS demanded strict punishment for the culprit and to initiate a probe into the mal-administration of the hospital and connivance of the hospital authorities.
