Imphal, August 07 2015 :
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has categorically stated that the State Government will fight back with all its might if the peace accord signed between New Delhi and NSCN-IM infringes upon the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Briefing media persons at Congress Bhavan here today, Gaikhangam stated that the State Government was not given any information before the peace accord was signed.
Not only NSCN-IM, peace accords signed with any rebel group is welcome but creating a new problem in the name of solving a problem is simply unacceptable.
The Government of India should act judiciously otherwise there is no guarantee that more problems would not crop up.
Details of the peace accord have not been provided to the State Government till date.
The Government of India should let the people of Manipur know the full details of the peace accord so as to remove the common anxiety and confusion.
By keeping the details of the peace a closely guarded secret, people have all the reason to suspect some hidden agenda.
If it is for the good of the State and the country, there is no harm in placing full details of the accord in the public domain, Gaikhangam asserted.
In case the peace accord infringes upon the territorial integrity of Manipur, the incumbent Government and the people of Manipur irrespective of ethnicity, religion and topography would fight till the end.
After a representation seeking details of the peace accord was sent to the Prime Minister, Chief Minister O Ibobi left for Delhi today to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in order to gather details of the accord and highlight the collective wishes of the people of Manipur, provided he is given appointments.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi was right in calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrogant for signing the peace accord without giving any information to the Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur.
It is well and good if the peace accord does not challenge the integrity of Manipur otherwise the State Government and the people of Manipur would challenge the accord at the highest level, Gaikhangam asserted.
