AMUCO assists Sirarakhong village

In a goodwill gesture, a team of All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) led by its president Ph Deban Sharma today paid a visit to Sirarakhong village, Ukhrul district, where they extended assistance to the villagers who were hit by a disastrous natural calamity recently.
Sirarakhong village is known for producing a type of colourful and tasty chilly called "Hathei" .
The team met the headman of the village and representatives of the village authority and shared the grievances faced by the villages following the occurrence of the natural calamity.
During the meeting, the village headman V Wungkhayap Zimik said that cracks appeared in parts of the village that caved in around four months back.
He said that the villagers did not take the incident seriously until a stretch of a hill measuring around 200 meter and a portion of Mahadeva-Tolloi road measuring around 150 feet caved in on April 5 .
At least four houses were shattered in the natural calamity, he lamented.
He said that the villagers are feeling more insecure after a team of State Disaster Response Force arrived at the village yesterday where they expressed apprehension that around 26 houses are at stake as they are situated in areas prone to sinking.
The village headman expressed gratitude to the organisation for showing solidarity with the villagers.
He also appreciated Forest and Environment Minister Th Shyamkumar and Tribal Development and Hills Minister N Kayisii for extending financial assistance to the villagers during their trip to the village yesterday.
AMUCO president Deban Sharma maintained that the visit was paid to share the plight faced by the villagers.
He assured that the organisation will take a big role in urging the State Government to take up measures for rehabilitation and resettlement of the aggrieved villagers.
Hailing the Government for showing prompt concern towards the village, he pledged to continue working for peaceful co-existence amongst the different communities of the State.
Deban on behalf of the organisation handed over a sum of Rs 15, 000 to the village.
