Imphal, February 07 2020:
The Federation of Government College Teachers' Associations (FEGOCTA) Manipur has announced that it will launch a relay hunger strike from tomorrow, apart from boycotting the coming PG examination which is scheduled to begin from February 14, until and unless the State Government fails to fulfil its demands by February 13 .
A statement issued by the general secretary of FEGOCTA mentioned that the decision was taken during a sit in protest cum meeting which was held at DM College of Arts today.
It further conveyed that FEGOCTA was forced to take this decision due to the failure of the State Government to fulfil the federation's demand to implement 7th UGC Pay.
Questioning the real motive of the Government, FEGOCTA conveyed that the present agitation, which began from January 28, is the third since September 24 last year.
Further questioning whether the Government lacks the commitment to implement the National policy of the 7th UGC Pay, it asked why Manipur is always the last State in the country to implement any UGC National policy.
On the other hand, student unions of four colleges have threatened to launch a stir if the State Government and FEGOCTA fail to come to an amicable solution immediately.
Speaking to media persons inside the campus of DM College of Science at a press meet organised by the student unions of GP Women College, DM College of Arts, DM College of Science and DM College of Commerce today, a student Sairem Chinglem said that it is highly condemnable on the part of the State Government as it has not provided any positive response despite repeated appeals and demands by FEGOCTA.
Due to the protests by the college teachers, the students have been deprived of valuable classes and lessons.
The situation has also created apprehension among the students as the 6th Semester exam will start in May, he explained.
Demanding the State Government and FEGOCTA to ensure that normal classes are resumed by February 9, he warned that failure to do so will force the four student unions to launch an agitation of their own against the authorities concerned.
