Unidentified gunmen shot dead a 50 year old, non-local dry fish (Ngari) businessman, today morning at Heirangoithong Kha Oinam Leikai, along the road from Heirangoithong to Manipur University gate, under Singjamei police station .
The incident occurred at around 8.15 am today, when locals of the area came across a bullet riddled body of a non local, who was blindfolded with hands tied behind his back, and lying in a pool of blood on the road side near a locality crematorium at Heirangoithong Kha Oinam Leikai .
The locals informed the police and within a few minutes, a team of Singjamei police led by the OC rushed to the spot, but the non local succumbed to his injuries before the police reached the area .
The police recovered three empty bullet casing and one live round from the spot and during the inquest of the dead body, the police found two bullet marks on the back side of the body and one on the leg.
Imphal West SP Themthing Ngasangva also arrived at the spot and investigated the incident site and the surrounding area .
The dead body was later deposited at RIMS morgue for postmortem by Singjamei police station .
The locals stated that they heard some two-three gunshots before the bullet riddled body of the non local was found along the road .
They also pointed out that the deceased might have been brought there and shot before dumping his body at Heirangoithong Kha Oinam Leikai .
The body has been identified as that of Lal Babu Singh (50) s/o Rawan Singh of Simraha Motihari district, Bihar (at present staying at Mantripukhri Lamlongei bazar in a rented house), by relatives at RIMS morgue .
Hari Om Kumar, a relative of the deceased, said that Lal Babu had been staying in Manipur for the last 25 years and that he has been a dry fish 'Ngari' businessman at Khwairamband Ngari Gali for the last 10 years .
He also pointed out that Lal Babu was working under one Arjun of Samastipur, Bihar (at present staying at Mayur Hotel, Thangal bazar, near old Assembly Complex) .
Hari Om Kumar also said that the Lal Babu was last seen by neighbours at around 7.30 am today.
