Imphal, September 04 2011:
Stating that the notion of achieving certain demands by subjecting the people of Manipur to extreme misery is highly condemnable, MLA RK Anand has demanded immediate lifting of the highway blockade being imposed by the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC).
Addressing a political conference of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC election committee, workers and advisors at his residence today, RK Anand observed that the issue of Sadar Hills is not an easy one.
However, it would not be correct to close the National Highways for more than a month in the name of pursuing their demand.
The notion that certain demands can be achieved by causing untold misery to the people is highly condemnable, he asserted.
It requires collective introspection to foster peaceful co-existence and strengthen the fraternal bonds among different communities.
"The Government has constituted a committee to frame a law which can check highway blockades and I'm a member of the committee", Anand said.
The issue of armed conflict cannot be simply brushed aside when there is a deep apprehension emanating from multiple challenges to the integrity of Manipur.
During the recent Assembly session, major issues of the State were deliberated threadbare.
The House also discussed on framing an effective law which can check influx of migrants to the State, Anand stated.
Major issues plaguing that must be tackled by the candidates elected after the 10th Assembly elections.
As such, people need to elect only the most competent and abled candidates.
Saying that he is aware of the ruling party's intention to take him into their fold, Anand said that he would discuss the matter with the kendra committee and the advisors.
He also highlighted the development programmes he took up during the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly period.
