Senapati: Liyai Khullen, Liyai Khunou villagers plant trees

Senapati, July 04 2019:
The villagers of Liyai Khullen and Liyai Khunou in collaboration with the Senapati Forest Division, Forest Department, Govt of Manipur organised a joint tree plantation at the border area between the two villages today.
On the sideline of the tree plantation programme, chairman of Liyai Khullen village informed the Forest Department officials that the village had banned felling of trees at the common land of the two villages some 10 years back.
A ban on hunting was enforced in the area recently, he said expressing the need to conserve the forest and wildlife.
Speaking on the occasion, D John Sha, MFS, DFO, Senapati Division lauded the villagers for taking keen interest in planting trees.

He said that the plantation drive is a continuation of the Van Mahotsav celebration.
The DFO pointed out various ill impacts of felling trees and advised the citizens of both the villages to take care of their environment.
Water scarcity is a result of deforestation, he said urging villagers not to fell trees.
Talking about the importance of conservation of wildlife, the DFO stated that all living beings are interdependent.
Extinction of a species directly or indirectly affect balance of nature, said the officer.
Thaikho Peter, Executive, ADC, Senapati also urged the villagers to protect and preserve forest and wildlife.
He lauded the villagers for taking various initiatives to protect forest and environment.
Around 1,000 tree saplings were planted.
