Imphal, November 02 2019:
Taking strong exception to the continuous airlifting of paramilitary forces into the State, which has caused fear and apprehension among the masses, six student organisations tried to stage a demonstration at Imphal airport but were stopped by Imphal West district police at around 3.30 pm today.
The police personnel halted volunteers of the six student organisations including AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS when they approa-ched the airport exit gate.
Speaking to media persons, DESAM secretary general L Lamyanba, while condemning the rapid militarisation, has asked why more paramilitary forces are being airlifted and stationed at educational institutes and public premises.
This has caused fear and unrest among the public, he added.
Even though assurance has been given to settle or sign the Naga political dialogue after consulting the stakeholders of the State, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, Lamyanba has questioned how the leaders are planning to reach a peaceful settlement by sending in more paramilitary forces.
Conveying that the people want to live in peace and harmony, he appealed to all the leaders and the authorities concerned not to make Manipur a war zone. The people of Manipur will welcome a peaceful solution of the Naga peace talks but the continuous airlifting of military forces should be stopped at the earliest, he asserted.
