Imphal, July 31 2015 :
Claiming that they have already staked claims through written applications to form Tamenglong and Chandel ADCs as well, NPF Manipur unit has alleged that Deputy Chief Minister was misleading the masses.
Speaking to some media persons today, NPF Manipur unit president Awangbow Newmai rejected Gaikhangam's claim about excluding Tamenglong and Chandel from the notification issued for installation of ADCs because no one staked claims to form ADCs in the two districts.
After a joint meeting of NPF and BJP, the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Chandel ADC were elected and a written application was submitted to the Chandel ADC of June 27 seeking the Government's invitation to form the ADC.
The Democratic Alliance of Chandel formed by NPF and BJP even elected KSM Mathew Maring as the Chairman of Chandel ADC.
Likewise, the Democratic Alliance of Tamenglong formed by the two parties submitted an application to the Tamenglong DC on June 20 seeking invitation to form the ADC.
It is a matter of serious concern that the Deputy Chief Minister told the media that Tamenglong and Chandel were excluded from the notification for installation of ADCs because no one staked claims to form ADCs, Awangbow said.
By deliberately ignoring all the claims to form ADCs, Gaikhangam was trying to manipulate democracy.
The Government should ensure that Chandel ADC and Tamenglong ADC are also installed at the earliest otherwise there would be strong protest movements, Awangbow added.
The Tamenglong unit of the NPF too has come out strongly against the statement of the Deputy Chief Minister.
In a statement, the president of the NPF, Tamenglong unit, said that the NPF with 5 elected Members and the BJP have formed the Democratic Alliance of Tamenglong and had staked claim to form the ADC on three counts, that is on June 19, June 28 and July 13 just after the swearing in ceremony.
Since the claim to form the ADC was not entertained, a 24 hour total shut down was clamped in the hill districts on July 26-27, said the NPF, Tamenglong unit.
Even today, the NPF-BJP combine is waiting for the Government to give the go ahead signal, said the statement and added that the statement of the Deputy Chief Minister was totally uncalled for.
Asserting that the delay in forming the ADC at Tamenglong is tantamount to the robbing the rights of the hill people, the NPF said that the people should no longer remain silent but must raise their protests against the deprivation of their Constitutional rights.
