The Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) in a statement has strongly condemned the conduct of 25 Assam Rifles commander Major Vinod and his jawans against Customs Officer Gaikhonlung Panmei, IRS on April 28 near Kangpokpi, IT Road.
Gaikhonlung Panmei, Assistant Commissioner of Customs, Department of Revenue was frisked, detained, harassed, and grilled for over an hour.
Stating that the unruly acts of Assam Rifles in Manipur is not the first time that had happened, the statement said that such actions showed the indisciplined character and discriminatory attitude towards the people of Northeast and must be condemned by all right thinking citizens of the country.
ZB urged Chief Minister O Ibobi, Home Minister Gaikhangam and the authority concerned to take up necessary action against Major Vinod and his jawans immediately so that such incidents do not recur.
The statement also alleged that Assam Rifles posted in different parts of Zeliangrong inhabited areas particularly in Tamenglong district frequently harass, detain, and frisk Government officials and common people in the name of maintaining law and order.
Such treatment is unfortunate, condemnable and should be look into by the State Government and the authority concerned.
