Imphal, March 29 2016:
MLA TN Haokip has replaced Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam as president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
AICC General Secretary (administration) Janardhan Dwivedi has issued a notification to this effect.
Notably, TN Haokip has been elected four times from 59-Saikot (ST) Assembly Constituency.
Earlier, he held Ministerial portfolios apart from holding the post of Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly at different points of time.
The new MPCC president is also a former journalist.
More than 20 Congress MLAs were demanding replacement of some Ministers who lacked transparency and whose performances were far from satisfactory.

They went to Delhi recently and placed their demands before AICC president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
Not long after, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi called Chief Minister O Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who also held the post of MPCC president to Delhi.
The new development of appointing a new MPCC president came after Ibobi and Gaikhangam's meeting with the AICC top leaders.
According to the notification issued by AICC General Secretary (administration) Janardhan Dwivedi with due approval of the AICC president, MLA TN Haokip would take over as MPCC president with immediate effect.
Notably, Gaikhangam had expressed his desire to relinquish the post of MPCC president since he assumed charge of a Cabinet Minister.
However, he held the post of MPCC President till today as the AICC made no move to replace him.
One of the MLAs who were demanding appointment of new MPCC president and Ministry reshuffle told The Sangai Express that the AICC's decision to elect a new party president would further strengthen Congress party in Manipur.
Reacting to certain media reports which reported possibility of removing five Ministers, the MLA maintained that there is little possibility of reshuffling the Council of Ministers.
Again reacting to BJP Manipur Pradesh president Th Chaoba's alleged assertion that no Ministry reshuffle would be affected without offering bribe, the MLA said that rampant corruption characterised by Chaoba's political career is now over.
He then advised Chaoba to focus on strengthening BJP in Manipur rather than interfering in the internal matters of Congress party.
No Congress MLA has any inclination to indulge in corruption or graft practices, he claimed.
