Goods trucks reach Jiri enroute to Guwahati

Empty trucks which left Imphal to lift essential goods from Guwahati on August 20 have reached Jiribam under security escorts and the police have communicated to the Government that the condition of a stretch extending over a distance of about 2 kms in Kambiron area along NH-37 is deplorable beyond comparison.
According to information received from the police, more than 800 empty trucks which have been escorted from here along the Imphal-Jiribam Road (National Highway 37) on August 20 to lift essential goods from Guwahati have reached Jiribam and around 400 loaded trucks bound for Imphal are waiting at Jiribam.
The condition of the National Highway for over a distance of about 2 kms in Kambiron area is so bad that immediate repairing/improvement work is needed.
Otherwise, it would be difficult for the loaded trucks to return to Imphal, the source informed, adding that the matter has been already brought to the notice of the State Government by the Jiribam police.

Among the Imphal bound loaded trucks which are waiting at Jiribam, 58 are oil tankers, the source disclosed.
Meanwhile, Minister of Public Affairs, Food and Public Distribution N Biren has informed that 40 other oil tankers which were stranded at Khatkhati too have reached Jiribam and another 45 oil tankers have started filling fuel at Ramnagar, Silchar.
On the other hand, following imposition of total bandh by UNC in Naga inhabited areas, plying of vehicles transporting goods via Senapati and Ukhrul have stopped although there is no restriction to the movement of Inter-district buses and other vehicles.
