Lightnings, windstorms wreak havoc, many injured

Lightning and windstorms which struck the State yes-terday and today wreaked havoc injuring many people and damaging a number of struc-tures including dwelling houses in different parts of the State.
Roof of a pavilion of TNL ground, Ukhrul was set ablaze by lightning during a football semi-final match at around 2.50 pm today.
Many suffered from minor injuries.
However, two persons were severely injured and were rushed to district hospital.
The severly injured persons have been identified as Thanshok Rumthao (28) of Alungtang Ukhrul and Mayami (16) of Nambisia village.
Mayami is in critical condition and is still in unconscious state while Thanshok's condition has stabalised.
Though, Ukhrul fire service team doused off the fire at around 3.20 pm, the pavilion has been reduced to cinders.

According to reports, Nongmaikhong, a village located in the adjoining area of Thoubal and Bishnupur districts was worst hit by the storm.
Apart from many houses and structures ravaged, electric poles and trees were uprooted by the storm.
Salam Sanjit s/o S Amudon, Salam Bibi Singh s/o S Manibabu, Salam (ongbi) Ibempishak Devi w/o S Manibabu, Salam Inaocha s/o S Chaosana Singh, Salam Sadananda s/o S Sanjit and N Kunjabihari of the area sustained injuries.
The injured victims were admitted to Moirang hospital, the report added.
Meanwhile, a minor boy sustained injuries as lightning struck him today at around 9 am.
The injured boy has been identified as Heikrujam Amarjit (14) s/o H Ranajit (Abung) of Wangjing SK Leikai, Heikrujam Leirak.
The incident happened while the boy was cutting a tree in the residential area.
He sustained injuries on left arm, leg, armpit and waist.
He was admitted to Wangjing Public Hospital and was later referred to RIMS, the reports said.
Meanwhile, the thunderstorm which struck most part of Imphal valley last evening around 7:15 pm damaged a number of structures and houses in different parts.
The thunderstorm which measured above 60 km/hr damaged HT cable poles and electric poles from Hiyangthang to Samurou.
According to a statement issued by Konthoujam Youth Peace Club, houses and other structures of Konthoujam Lairembi Leikai sustained massive damages due to the thunderstorm.
The club urged authorities concerned to extend possible help and sup- port to the victims.
A number of houses were also damaged at Thoubal Kiyam Khongahanbi, Sama-ram, Kakching Wairi, Kak- ching Chumnang Leikai, Kakching Mayai Leikai, Kak-ching Moirangthem Leikai, Kakching Super Market, Mayeng Lamjao, Langmei-dong, Hiyangleam-Wabagai, Laphupat Tera and Yairipok Kakmayai Primary School.
