Imphal, February 13 2012:
With a view to check congestion inside Imphal city, vehicles were barred from entering Thangal Bazar as well as Paona Bazar with effect from today.
Even as this new measure taken up on experimental basis reduced congestion and allowed free movement of pedestrians within Khwairamband Keithel, it was not without any spill-over effects.
On account of the new traffic rules, important Imphal city roads like Wahengbam Leikai road, Nagamapal road and Kanglapat road were more crowded and congested than the previous days.
As per the new rules, no vehicles would be allowed entry either in Thangal Bazar or Paona Bazar between 9 am and 1 pm and from 3 pm to 5 pm everyday.
Earlier, vehicles were allowed entry in Thangal Bazar and Paona Bazar under one-way traffic system.

Though the new traffic regulation eased movement of pedestrians within Khwairamband Keithel, it caused heavy traffic congestions on the adjoining roads.
Talking about the new traffic regulation, DSP (Traffic) Y Victoria said that effectiveness of the new rules would be observed for some days.
