The State Government has been working with a vision to develop Churachandpur district hospital to the level of a hill medical college, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing.
The Minister today inspected the construction work and other requirements of the district hospital as a part of his drive to make spot assessment of all district hospitals in the State.
Phungzathang and his team went around all the wards including OPD, children ward, labor room etc and made a direct assessment of the hospital's functioning, infrastructure and other requirements.
Speaking to the accompanying media persons, Phungzathang stated that the State Government has a special plan to upgrade Churachandpur district hospital to the level of a hill medical college.

After inspecting the building and infrastructure, the team sent by the Government of India remarked that Churachandpur district hospital was the best district hospital of the State, claimed the Health Minister.
Stating that the hospital has improved considerably, Phungzathang attributed these positive developments to the dedication of doctors and staff working at the hospital.
Tiles would be fixed shortly on the walls of labor room, OT and all wards on priority basis.
Noting that the hospital's blood bank is now working round the clock, Phungzathang assured that shortfalls in potable water supply would be addressed very soon.
In order to address the shortage of power supply, the State Government has already sanctioned Rs 1.6 crore for connecting a dedicated power line to the hospital.
There is shortage of doctors in the State because of 183 doctors have been sent for post graduate training with a view to raise the number of specialist doctors.
Once the training programmes are over, the Government would have no difficulty in posting adequate number of doctors at Churachandpur district hospital.
Saying that majority of the sweepers simply disappear for the whole day after showing themselves for a few minutes in the morning, the Health Minister asserted that no more sweepers would be recruited in Govt hospitals under a new policy of the Government as they are not doing their duties properly.
Sweepers would be hired through Medical Superintendents on day to day basis.
Moreover, Medical Superintendents have been authorised to terminate sweepers who do not do their duties properly.
Necessary fund would be incorporated in the annual budget for a major repairing of the children ward.
The Minister also assured that all dysfunctional toilets would be repaired soon.
Later Phungzathang inspected the Pearsonmun PHSC and a spot near Lamba river which has been already identified for relocation of the PHSC.
Then the team visited Mata and inspected the spot selected for construction of another PHSC.
