KCP leader breaks away, seven suspended

In yet another case of arrested rebels escaping from police custody, self styled chief commander of KCP-MTF Sunil Meitei broke away from the lock-up of Porompat police station last night.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police Department has announced a cash reward of Rs one lakh to any person who can provide information or otherwise lead to the arrest of KCP-MTF leader Chirom Tiken Meitei alias Sunil Meitei, dead or alive.
Moreover, Officer in-Charge of the Police station has been suspended along with six other police personnel.
An enquiry has also been initiated into the audacious escape.
About 35 years old, Sunil Meitei belongs to Waheng Khuman Mamang Leikai in Bishnupur district.
He is also known by the names of Chirom Tiken, Leninkumar, Premkumar and Prakash.
His father's name is Ch Shyam Singh.
Sunil Meitei was being lodged in the lock-up together with 4/5 other apprehendees.
Signs of digging the floor and the adjoining wall, suspectedly with metallic bucket handle could be seen inside the lock-up.

The fact that Sunil Meitei had broken away was realised only at 5 this morning during routine checking of the inmates.
Sunil Meitei accused in several cases of extortion, assaults and murders in many areas, particularly adjoining areas of Imphal West and Bishnupur districts was arrested by Delhi Police (Special Cell) from Ejipura area of Bangalore on June 29 this year.
One laptop, two mobile phone handsets, 11 SIM cards and some documents were also seized from his possession.
He was brought to Imphal by a police team led by Bishnupur SDPO Hopeson on July 21 .
Sunil was taken to Wangoi police station two days back before he was transferred to Porompat police station on the requisition of Lamlai Police for interrogation in connection with a case.
Sunil Meitei was released from Sajiwa Central Jail for the last time in November 2001 before he was re-arrested.
DGP Y Joykumar today visited Porompat police station and inspected the lockup from where Sunil Meitei made his daring escape.
Meanwhile, a notification issued by the DGP announced that cash reward of Rs one lakh would be given to any one who can provide information or otherwise lead to arrest of Sunil Meitei dead or alive.
Any information on Sunil can be provided to any of the district SPs or the DGP himself.
It further assured that identity of the informer(s) would be kept secret.
On the other hand, Porompat P/S OC Inspector Gitchandra, Sub-Inspector Kh Tondon, Sub-Inspector Vaiphei, Assistant Sub-Inspector Md Sabir, Constable Md Sakil, Constable Md Farood and Constable M Raghumani have been suspended.
Moreover, an enquiry team led by the ADGP (Intelligence) has initiated an enquiry into the daring escape.
It is said that the enquiry team would submit its report within 15 days.
It may be recalled that MAFYF president Sapamcha Kangleipal too managed to escape from police custody from the security ward of JN Hospital in the intervening night of December 28 and 29, 2008 .
