Jiribam, September 01 2012:
Following intensified vigilance against influx of illegal migrants, 60 people coming from Assam to Manipur were intercepted and made to turn back as they did not have valid documents.
On the other hand, many people who speak neither Manipuri nor any of the local tribal dialects have been detected in many areas of Jiribam sub-division.
Today's anti-immigration exercise was orchestrated by Foreigner Check Post (FCP) OCs Md Tajuddin Khan and Y Muhindro.
As a result of the strict vigilance put up by police against illegal migrants, the frequency and volume of Jiribam-Imphal transport service have dwindled considerably.
OC Md Tajuddin Khan said that all the people entering Jiribam from Assam were verified by a police team including himself as a routine exercise.
Those who did not have valid documents and identity cards were politely told to turn back and they numbered around 60 .
