Imphal, February 01 2015:
Even though construction of Tiddim road (Keishampat junction to Malom) was not enlisted in the annual work programme of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the expanded section would be constructed with funds drawn from Special Central Assistance (SCA) .
A well placed source informed that an amount of Rs 62 crore has been sanctioned from SCA for construction of the expanded Tiddim road section.
Keishampat to Malom section of Tiddim Road was expanded so that the same section can be developed as an eight-lane road from a four-lane road.
However, the road would be developed as a six-lane road after leaving out 3.5 metres on either side of the road for development as service land.

Apart from being a part of National Highway, it is the most important road which connects Tulihal airport with Imphal city and Palace Compound, the main venue of the annual Manipur Sangai Festival.
As such, the State Government has been investing additional time and money on Keishampat-Malom road as well as the new Sanjenthong bridge.
Keeping in line with the Government's keen interest to develop Keishampat-Malom section of Tiddim road as a modern thoroughfare, an amount of Rs 62 crore was sanctioned from SCA.
This amount would be utilized in construction of 1.5 metre wide drain on either side of the road, construction/renovation of culverts and black-topping Tiddim road from Keishampat junction to Tiddim ground.
The drains which would be constructed on either side of the road would be equipped with chamber for encasing telecom cables.
Construction of Tiddim road from Keishampat to Malom would entail construction/renovation of nine major culverts.
As for re-construction of road median, the State Government has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to enlist the same work under the Ministry's annual plan, conveyed the source.
Out of Rs 62 crore sanctioned from SCA, Rs 15 crore has been released so far.
More money would be released from the sanctioned amount according to requirements, added the source.
