Imphal, July 31 2020: While one more COVID-19 patient died at JNIMS this morning taking the total death toll in Manipur to five, as many as 27 personnel of Manipur Rifles and their families staying at the 1st MR Family Line have been tested positive for the contagion.

Meanwhile, it is reported that the SP of Kamjong has also been tested positive for COVID-19 .

The OC of Mayang Imphal Police Station, is also reported to be critically ill with COVID-19 .

After four personnel of 8th MR and their two family members staying at the same family line were tested positive earlier, 27 personnel of MR and their family members were found infected by COVID-19 today.

Results of five others could not be confirmed till the time of filing this report.

After Imphal West district administration declared 1st MR Battalion as a containment zone, 621 were identified in the course of close contacts tracing.

While some of them have been already tested, the remaining would be tested tomorrow.

Five individuals including two doctors and two nurses working at RIMS PMR were confirmed to be COVID-19 positive yesterday.

On the other hand, a 40 year old COVID-19 positive man from Lilong Khunou who was referred to JNIMS from Thoubal CCC on July 29 died at the hospital today.

So far, five people have succumbed to COVID-19 in the State during the last three days.

The latest victim was also suffering from diabetes and hypertension.

The first COVID-19 victim from Khongjom Sapam, Thoubal district was cremated by Imphal West district administration at the Minuthong Municipal Council Crematorium at 1 am today.

Earlier, the dead body of the man from Leimakhong was buried by Kangpokpi district administration at Chingmeirong cemetery last night.

The dead body of the victim from Thoubal Moijing was taken to his native place today for the last rites.

Likewise, mortal remains of the other victim from Kangpokpi district were also taken to Chengdai village, Saikul sub-division for performing the last rites, sources informed.

Altogether 505 samples were tested for COVID-19 at JNIMS today and 61 of them were found positive.

Of the 61 people tested positive, 55 are BSF personnel, currently posted at the Churachandpur training centre.

Our CCpur correspondent reports:
With 60 new Covid-19 cases confirmed in Churachandpur today, the BSF personnel have continued to proliferate the tally with at least 55 of them turning out to be from the country's premier border force.

Sources said, three of the new cases are from Mini-Secretariat QC, while two others are from Saikot CQC and Sabdhav Mandap QC.

The remaining 55 cases are from 113 Bn BSF.

With today's cases, Churachandpur's tally stands at 306 .

The recovery rate though impressive about a week back, now stands at 154, just two cases above the active cases of 152 .

It is also worth mentioning that about a third, 119 of the total 306 cases are from the BSF, while there are also at least two cases from the civilian population with no known travel history.

Meanwhile, the district health officials have made crucial shift in their approach to the two cases of local transmission as the CMO has declared that test conducted on close contacts of the two people without travel history has been disbanded.

The close contacts of the two cases, a receptionist at a private lab and a pharmacist, whose samples have not been tested are now advised to undergo strict home quarantine and to only contact the IDSP officials if any of them develop Covid-19 symptoms.

More than 500 close contacts of the two cases have been tested in the past two weeks but none of them have returned positive.

According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, 116 people were tested positive for the contagion during the last 24 hours at RIMS, JNIMS and Babina Diagnostic Centre.

Out of them, 80 are security personnel.

12 of them belong to Imphal West, 59 to Churachandpur, one to Imphal East, 24 to Kakching, one to Kangpokpi, two to Tameng-long, one to Tengnoupal, 15 to Thoubal and one to Senapati.

Of all the people found positive today, seven from Imphal West, 10 from Thoubal and two from Tamenglong have no travel history.

With the positive cases mounting, the recovery rate has declined to 64.44 per cent even as 17 COVID-19 patients were discharged during the last 24 hours after recovery.

They were treated at CCC Meitram (4), CCC Senapati (3), CCC Thoubal (4), RIMS (1) and JNIMS (5).The tally of positive cases has reached 2621 in the State including 931 active cases and 1689 recovered cases.

If one adheres to the prescribed SOP, there is nothing to be afraid from the dead bodies of people who have succumbed to COVID-19, mentioned the spokesman's press release.
