Imphal, May 26 2016:
With worsening law and order
situation across the State capital
after the Joint Committee on
Inner Line Permit System
(JCILPS) launched a series of
renewed protests demanding
the State Govt to press the
Central leaders for conversion
of the three Bills passed last year
into Acts, security measures
have been beefed up at
important and strategic
locations including schools and
colleges.
Police pickets were seen at
many schools and colleges
across the capital.
With recent incidents of
JCILPS members storming
political party offices, a large
number of police barricades,
manned by police personnel
including women police were
seen in front of Congress
Bhavan located at BT Road
and BJP Manipur Pradesh
office at Nityaipat Chuthek,
Keishampat to avert any un-
toward incidents.
A police officer on ano-
nymity told
The Sangai Ex-
press
that security personnel
were mobilized to prevent any
untoward incident which
might erupt at any moment.
It may be mentioned that
the Student Wing of JCILPS
announced its decision to
launch a series of protests if
the Chief Minister and all
political parties fail to press
the Union Govt by May 27
for conversion of the three
Bills passed by the State Govt
last year into Acts in order to save the indigenous people of Manipur.
At this critical juncture when any form of protest or agi-
tation can erupt any moment, beefing up security measures can
be the best option to avert any collateral damage to public and
private property, the officer added.
Mobile police vehicles were also seen at different strategic
locations across Imphal city.
Police barricades and regular
police patrol were also put in place at different locations where
frequent protests erupted in the past.
