Imphal, June 24 2020:
Manipur is fast approaching the 1000 mark with 992 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Amid the rising number of cases, efforts are also on to convert two facilities into COVID Care Centres (CCCs), said a Health Department official.
The State Family Welfare Training Hostel at Lamphel and Trade Centre at Lamboikhongnangkhong will be converted to CCCs, said the official.
The State Family Welfare Training Hostel at present has 60 beds but once the conversion is finished, the COVID Care Centre will have at least 100 beds, the official said adding with increasing number of cases, the State is facing accommodation problem at present.
Once the work (conversion) is done, COVID-19 cases may be shifted to the centres to ease the congestion at JNIMS, RIMS and other centres and hospitals, added the official.
Since thousands of stranded natives returned to the State recently, the number of COVID cases is rising by double digits daily.
Sources at RIMS informed that the hospital has detected 14 cases late today.
Nine are from Ukhrul, four are from Tamenglong and one from Kamjong district.
JNIMS source also informed that eight cases have been detected at the hospital today and six persons have recovered from the disease.
The six persons may be discharged tomorrow.
The eight cases were detected from among the 766 samples tested today, said the source adding that their travel history is not known yet.
