Imphal, February 24 2011:
Reacting to news report about some families from Saparmeina, Motbung and Kangpokpi areas forced to leave their homes and hearths in the aftermath of quit notice served to them, the Kuki National Front (KNF) has clarified that it has nothing to do with the issue.
Interacting with newspersons at its Ebenezer designated camp in Saparmeina today, KNF general secretary Aaron Kipgen said no ultimatum was served to Meitei residents of Saparmeina, Motbung and Kangpokpi to leave their place of residence as reported in the media.
Calling upon all concerned to remain calm and secure at their respective homes, Aaron pointed out that one 14-year old Sagar was kidnapped on February 19 by the KCP (MC) outfit in connection with a demand of Rs 50 lakh served to the boy's father namely Suresh Prasad, who runs a hardware store in Saparmeina.
While noting that where-abouts of Sagar still remains unknown, the KNF leader asserted that as the boy was kidnapped in its area of operation, KNF exercised the right to drive away armed groups who are not a signatory to the suspension of operation agreement.
apart from highlighting that the KCP (MC) activists had been indulging in kidnapping, threatening and lootings activities in a frequent manner that constrained KNF to undertake necessary measures to foil such nefarious acts, Aaron also ridiculed condemnations by certain NGOs against the initiative of the KNF to stop activities of anti-social elements.
He also appealed to all responsible social organisations of the Meitei community not to inflame the situation and avoid any unwanted communal tension.
Aaron further clarified that sagar Prasad is not a KNF member as reported in the media.
