Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Prakash Jaiswal today met Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh at Raj Bhavan soon after his arrival here and held serious discussion on the prevailing law and order situation in the State in the wake of the public outcry against the death of Thangjam Manorama in the custody of 17 Assam Rifles, according to an official source.
The source further said that a high level security meeting presided over by the Union MoS for Home Affairs was also held later at the Raj Bhavan.
Director General of Assam Rifles Lt Gen Bhupinder Singh, Corps Commander Lt Gen Daljit, DGP of Manipur AK Parashar, Chief Secretary AP Sharma were among the top brass officials who attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the law and order condition of the State and discussed other measures to be taken up to restore normalcy, the official source said.
Afterwards, the visiting Union Minister met senior Cabinet Ministers of the SPF Government at the Chief Minister�s office chamber to get their views and opinions on the problems of the State, the source added.
Jaiswal would be spending the night at the Raj Bhavan.
Disclosing the itinerary of the visiting Union Minister who is here on a two day visit, the official source said that tomorrow at 9.30 am, Jaiswal would be giving audience to public leaders of the State.
Family members of Manorama would also be allowed to air their grievances to the Union Minister during the meeting.
At 10 am, Opposition MLA and president of MPP O Joy and MLA Dr Nimaichand Luwang will submit a memorandum to the Union Minister followed by other political parties and voluntary organisations.
He will also address the media at 12.15 pm tomorrow before catching the flight for New Delhi.
