Sangai Festival preparations almost complete

Preparations for this year's edition of Manipur Sangai Festival which would be opened on November 21 is almost complete.
Meanwhile international conference, film festival, theatre festival and cultural conference have been lined up as part of the annual festival.
Briefing media persons at the conference hall of Old Secretariat this afternoon, Chief Secretary O Nabakishore informed that preparations for the annual festival are almost complete.
Norway's Ambassador, China's Ambassador, High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Councillor Ministers of Indonesia and Japan have confirmed their participation in the 10-days festival.
A cultural troupe from Thailand and two artisans from Sri Lanka would perform/take part in the festival.

Apart from replicas of traditional houses of different ethnic groups of Manipur, traditional Meitei house complete with an outhouse decorated with a model of young girl weaving clothes on handloom would be put on display.
Handloom products of different ethnic groups would also be exhibited.
As a part of the annual festival, an international film festival would be held at MFDC and Shumang Leelas (courtyard plays) would be staged at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, said the Chief Secretary.
A cultural troupe from Nagaland and the Shillong Chamber of Choir would also perform during the festival.
There would be a gallery where sculptures made by Manipuri artisans would be exhibited.
Moreover, antiquities and relics of Second World War period discovered from different parts of Manipur would also be put on display.
A conference on Indo-Myanmar border trade would be held on November 24.Chief Secretaries of all the North Eastern States have been invited to the conference.
This year's edition of the Manipur Polo International (international polo tournament) would be kicked off from November 22 and the championship would be participated by polo teams of the USA, the UK, Australia and Thailand in addition to host Manipur.
The new Sanjenthong bridge would be inaugurated tomorrow and due approval has been received from the Election Commission of India.
Tourism Secretary Nidhi Mani Triparthy said that a theatre festival would be held at the Chandrakirti Auditorium from November 22 to 28.A conference on the cultural heritage of Myanmar and Manipur would be held at Chorus Repertory.
Cycle rallies which would carry the message of the festival would be held in each and every district starting from tomorrow, Nidhi Triparthy said.
As for the renovation of Kangla Moat, it would be fenced off using tin sheets, said the Chief Secretary in response to a query.
Saying that adequate security measures have been put in place, the Chief Secretary informed that he would consult the DGP on minimizing presence of security personnel in uniform at the festival venues.
