Rs 23 crore for special unit building of NE

The Ministry of Women and Child Development has agreed to sanction over Rs 23 crore for setting up the building of a Special Unit for North East Region (SPUNER) at Nanakpura, New Delhi under Nirbhaya Fund.
The decision to sanction the amount was okayed during a meeting of the Empowered Committee of the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) on February 18, saiod a source while speaking to The Sangai Express.
Under this, a new building for the office of the Special Unit for North East Region (SPUNER) will be set up at Nanakpura at the cost of Rs 2325.23 lakh, said an office memorandum issued by the Under Secretary in the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

Subsequent to the meeting, the reformulated proposals have been received from Delhi police, as suggested by MCWD and the proposal for the new building has 13 additional gender sensitive features for addressing crime against women such as facilities for women and child empowerment, psycho-social support for women, training and capacity building, legal aid, mediation service, child care, research and development, enabling environment for women and children, emergency response for safety of women unit etc.
Along with SPUNER, the meeting also agreed to the proposal for construction of a new office building consisting of special unit for women and children under Nirbhaya Fund.
Among others a copy of the office memorandum has also been addressed to Robin Hibu, Joint Commissioner of Police, Special Unit for Women and Children, Delhi police.
