Heavy storm lashes Guwahati, Ukhrul, Senapati, Bishnupur

Guwahati, April 15 2020:
A heavy cyclonic storm-lashed Guwahati and many other parts of Assam on Wednesday evening.
The severe sand storm hit the capital of the city of Assam and other parts of the state followed by a mild shower.
Several properties in Guwahati and some parts of Nagaon, Morigaon, Kamrup districts were reportedly damaged in the massive storm.
The storm damaged several houses, roadside hoardings, uprooting electric poles, trees in many parts of the State.
The power supply in Guwahati was snapped for a few hours.

The storm is locally known as 'Bordoisila' experienced every year in the spring season, which refers to a wild wind that is accompanied by heavy rain and thunderstorms and it marks the beginning of monsoon season.
The storm also hit parts of Manipur today.
Our Ukhrul correspondent reports: Ukhrul experienced sudden downpour of heavy rain accompanied by hailstones across the town today.
Thunderstorm accompanied by hailstones and heavy down pouring of rain lashed Ukhrul town from 5 pm onwards and it lasted for a few hours.
Hailstones were spread all across the town road, nulllah, roof etc in a short time.
Children came out and played with hailstones as most of the children were experiencing it for the first time.
An elderly person, Aphy said that today's rain will at least increase the water volume of the traditional ponds.
Till the time of filing this report, destruction of property or human casualty caused by the flash rain has not been reported.
Senapati: With rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorm predicted since the last few days, heavy rain and hailstones were experienced in some villages in Senapati district.
Sources informed of heavy rain with small hailstones from Purul village under Purul sub-division and Phuba village under Paomata sub-division.
Mild hailstones were reported in Maiba village while Ngari Khullen, Kodom village and Lakhamai under Phaibung Chillavai sub-division reported hailstones.
Fortunately, there are no reports of human casualties or damages to properties as the size of the hailstones were small except for some vegetables damaged.
Mao areas also reported rain but no hailstones.
However, water scarcity hit areas like Senapati DHQ remained dry and hot.
Bishnupur: Gusts of wind that swept through the State this evening destroyed several properties in different parts of Bishnupur district.
A house of one L Ibomcha at Moirangkhunou Huirem Leirak under Thanga Assembly Constituency was damaged by the strong wind.
One youth from Kumbi, Ningombam Bijen Singh was admitted to Moirang CHC after a tree fell on the vehicle (van) he was driving.
He was discharged after treatment at the CHC.
An electric poll at Moirang Okshongbung, one house at Thangalawai Sabal Leikai, trees at different farms of Thanga, several houses at Moirang and Phubala Market shed were also reportedly damaged by the wind.
Kakching : The wind also blew off tins of a tailor shop operated by Haobijam Nandakeshwor at Hiyanglam Kendra and a few houses under Arong Nongmaikhong Gram Panchayat, said Member of the Ward no 9/4 of the GP .
