Senapati, June 13 2015 :
United Naga Council (UNC) has today announced a 48 hour bandh on vehicular traffic along the National Highways in Manipur hills from midnight of June 16 to push for the demand of an Alternative Arrangement.
The UNC said that the last 7th round of 'tripartite talks' on Alternative Arrangement for the Nagas of Manipur was held on February 6, 2014 at Tahamzam (Senapati).
The political talk agreed to constitute a High Level Committee to translate the demand into political reality.
"As our land, history, time honored institution, culture and tradition and identity could not be defended and protected under the incumbent oppressive political system of the communal Government of Manipur, the attention of the Government of India is drawn for its intervention with an Alternative Arrangement outside the Government of Manipur pending Indo-Naga political settlement," it added in a statement.

To express its resentment over the non-fulfilment of its demand, the UNC has called a 48 hour vehicular bandh on the National Highways in Naga areas from the midnight of June 16, 2015, the statement added.
Respective tribe presidents, Naga frontal organizations, regional apex organizations are informed to implement the bandh effectively in their respective jurisdiction.
However, educational institutions, medical, water supply, electricity and media are exempted from the purview of the bandh.
Anybody violating the democratic bandh shall be doing so at his/her own risk, cautioned UNC.
The UNC statement said that Nagas have their own distinct history, culture and tradition.
To protect land, time honoured-institution, identity, the Naga people of Manipur had convened the 3rd Naga Peoples' Convention (NPC) on July 1, 2010 declaring severance of political ties with the 'communal Government of Manipur' and to demand Alternative Arrangement outside the Government of Manipur pending Indo-Naga political settlement.
The demand was registered with the intervention of the then Prime Minister of India and the first round of 'tripartite talk' was held on September 21, 2010 in New Delhi, the UNC note added.
