BJP announces candidates for 24 wards

BJP Manipur Pradesh has come out with a list of 24 candidates who would be contesting the ensuing Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) election scheduled on June 2 .
The party is likely to name three more candidates for ward numbers 3, 20 and 26 tomorrow.
On the other hand, the State unit of the BJP in consultation with Prahlad Singh Patel, MP and in charge of Manipur has constituted the State Election Committee with State BJP president K Bhabananda as chairman.
The strength of the Committee is 13 including two Special Invitees.
A reliable source however informed The Sangai Express that BJP president Amit Shah has refused to acknowledge the State Election Committee and State BJP members discussed the new development late into the evening today.
Again in consultation with Prahlad Singh Patel, the State BJP has also constituted the State Core Committee with K Bhabananda as the Chairman.
There are 6 members in the Core Committee.

Speaking to mediapersons today at their Nityaipat Chuthek office, BJP Manipur Pradesh ex-president and State Election Management Committee convenor Th Chaoba said that 54 application forms were issued for party tickets.
Out of them, 43 submitted their applicant forms.
Then their names were referred to their respective Mandals and Mahila wings.
The Mandals and Mahila wings were asked to recommend the most prospective candidates.
After the recommended candidates were studied by a seven-member core committee and the same list was put before a meeting of the State Election Committee which finalised a list of 24 candidates in the first phase.
The same process is not fully complete for ward nos 2, 20 and 26.Candidates for the three wards would be announced tomorrow, Chaoba said.
He exuded confidence that BJP will win majority in IMC.
BJP will make all efforts to topple the corrupt Congress Government and bring a BJP Government which is dedicated to the welfare of the poor.
BJP would fight the election by focusing on the twin issues of corruption and law and order.
BJP Manipur Pradesh president Ksh Bhabananda said that the party would work as a united team in order to ensure success of the candidates fielded by the party.
Sources informed that candidates for ward nos 3 and 20 could not be finalised as some leaders have been trying to allot party tickets to applicants who joined BJP recently after side-stepping recommendations of senior party leaders As for ward no 26, there is not a single applicant.
Candidates announced by BJP today are Gaidon Kamei (Ward No 1), Th Purnachandra (Ward No 2), Th Devendro Singh (Ward No 4), H Bobby Sharma (Ward No 5), Ph Praneshori Devi (Ward No 6), A Manisana Singh (Ward No 7), G Romabati Devi (Ward No 8), Th Sharatchandra Singh (Ward No 9), S Shantikumar (Ward No 10), O Ranjit Singh (Ward No 11), Y Ulka Devi (Ward No 12) and O Romio Singh (Ward No 13) .
Other candidates who would be fighting the election on BJP tickets are L Rajeev Sharma (Ward No 14), Th Bankim Chandra (Ward No 15), Th Eliza (Ward No 16) L Lokeshwor Singh (Ward No 17), L (O) Inunganbi Devi (Ward No 18), RK (O) A Bina Devi (Ward No 19), Tontang Khamba Maring (Ward No 21) G (O) Chandrakala Devi (Ward No 22), N Ibeton Devi (Ward No 23), Mitchellu Gangmei (Ward No 24), Sujata Phaomei (Ward No 25) and Sh Prahlada Sharma (Ward No 27) .
