Imphal, May 11 2014 :
Even though it has been just four/five days since rainfall of medium density, except May 11 which saw heavy downpour, lashed Manipur, many roads, streets and lanes of Imphal and greater Imphal areas have been flooded.
However, water level of Nambul river has risen a little bit.
With most of the drains of Imphal localities already clogged by solid wastes, water overflowed on roads and streets creating a flood like situation.
In case the downpour continues for the next couple of days, many dwelling houses would be inundated.
Waishel Maril which is already clogged with solid wastes and grasses is now filled with water to its full volume.
Kwakeithel Moirang Purel road has been flooded up to the knee with water overflowing from Waishel Maril.

With the water level of Waishel Maril rising to its maximum height, water carried down by many drains which fall into it is either flowing in reverse direction or concentrating at the junctions thereby flooding adjoining roads and streets.
According to information received from Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the density of rainfall is steadily increasing.
Density of rainfall recorded on May 10 was 22.6 mm but it rose to 49.2 mm on May 11 .
ICAR reports say that rainfall would continue for the next few days.
