Even as protests and demonstrations demanding the full revocation of the decision to extend the Centre-NSCN (IM) ceasefire without territorial limits, six youths have stepped forward in a suicide pact to immolate themselves on August 2 if the Central government does not withdraw the ceasefire extension decision by August 1.the six teenage youths, all residents of Langmeidong, are Ch Bhugon, 18, son of Ch Indrajit, Y Friday Singh, 18, son of Y Pandit, both of Langmeidong Maning Leikai, Y Malemnganba, 18, son of Y Ibomcha of Langmeidong Mamang Leikai, L Harichandra , 18, son of L Ibotombi, S Bishorjit, 18, son of S Nabachandra of Langmeidong Makha Leikai and L Gandhi, 18, son of L Ningthouremba of Langmeidong Mayai Leikai.
Though the exact spot where they will carry out their self immolation pact has not been disclosed, it is learnt that it will be in Langmeidong itself.
In the meantime, thousands of people, in defiance of prohibitory orders, continued sit-in-protests, hoisted black flags and marched in rallies in Imphal, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts demanding the immediate withdrawal of the Centre-NSCN (IM) ceasefire from the state.
1500 schoolchildren belonging to Langmeidong Girls� Higher Secondary School, Baithami English School and AD English School staged a sit-in-protest today from 10 am to 12 noon at Langmeidong.
At Nagamapal bazar, young women belonging to the Girls Development Group, Khwai Brahmapur Nagamapal staged a protest dharna, with flags and festoons demanding withdrawal of the NSCN (IM) ceasefire extension.
At Kakwa bazar, over a thousand young women of the Kakwa area staged a similar demonstration and organized a rally from Kakwa to Singjamei Bazar.
They also adopted a resolution condemning the June 18 police firing and mourned the 15 people who have died in the movement.
They also appealed to womenfolk of the state to wear only traditional dress until the ceasefire extension decision is fully revoked.
After the rally, some boys of the Kakwa area burnt effigies of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, home minister LK Advani and NSCN (IM) leader Th Muivah.
Students of RIMS, including students from Arunachal Pradesh, also staged a sit-in-protest demonstration today demanding complete revocation of the decision to extend the NSCN (IM) ceasefire without territorial limits.
A public meeting against the extension of the ceasefire was held at Mayang Langjing and the meeting resolved to support the agitation of the UCM and to save the territorial integrity of Manipur.
