Imphal, February 05, 2009:
CPI WILL put up its former MLA Dr M Nara as the party candidate of the inner Parliamentary seat in the upcoming Parliamentary election as decided during the discussion within the party in presence of its National General Secretary AB Bardhan.
But the party will not contest in the outer Manipur Parliamentary seat.
The candidature of Dr Nara will be formally announced shortly, said the National General Secretary of CPI, AB Bardhan, who arrived at the state capital yesterday on a two-day visit.
While commenting on the relation between the CPI and the Congress in the state, Bardhan said that there is no good relation between the CPI and the Congress party that is leading the SPF government in the state, at the same time there is no such things as the parties being anti to each other as well.
Bardhan is here to discus matters concerning the ensuing Parliamentary election yesterday.
He further said that it will not be a problem for the party to win the inner Parliamentary seat, while keeping full confidence on the electors of the state and recalling earlier elections in which CPI candidates Ng Mohendro and Meghachandra had got elected.
He also said that survival of the CPI at the national level needs the support of the people of Manipur and he could estimate CPI candidate winning the upcoming election by getting more than two lakhs votes.
This means, he said defeating the nearest rival by around 15,000 to 20,000 votes.
Bardan while expressing his strong protest against the opening of NSCN (IM) camps in Manipur said it has been very clear that in the cease fire agreement between the outfit and GOI, it does not cover Manipur.
CPI is still standing for the territorial integrity of the state, he said reiterating that at any cost, CPI will always stand against opening designated camp of NSCN(IM) in the state.
He also said the collection of illegal taxes by the outfit maintaining ceasefire with GOI from the highway is violation of the ground rules of the agreement.
This is not tax but extortion of money from the public.
