Imphal, March 03 2016:
Works and Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar has categorically stated that there is no question of lifting the prohibition on parking vehicles along Paona Keithel and Thangal Keithel roads.
Responding to a query raised by MLA RK Imo during question hour in the State Assembly today, Dr Ratankumar said that many sites which were earlier used as parking lots within Thangal Keithel and Paona Keithel were closed in accordance with a decision of the State Cabinet.
Nonetheless, the State Government has made necessary arrangements to open public parking lots along the road leading to the State Museum behind Johnstone School, the road running in front of MPP office, the space available to the West of Pologround, Nagamapal road, Wahengbam Leikai road and the covered section of Naga rivulet.

The Transport Department has been working to open parking spaces at ISBT under PPP model as and when it becomes operational, Dr Ratankumar said.
Notwithstanding the Transport Minister's clarification, RK Imo urged the Government to make necessary arrangements so that vehicles can park along Paona Keithel and Thangal Keithel roads in a single row for specific hours.
There would be two/three rows of vehicles once they are allowed to park in a single row along these busy and congested roads.
This would create serious traffic problems, said Dr Ratankumar.
It was on account of volumes of complaints from the public that parking lots allotted along these roads were closed.
Re-opening these parking lots requires a fresh Cabinet decision and consultation with the Traffic Regulation and Parking Committee, Dr Ratankumar said.
Replying to a question raised by MLA O Lukhoi, Dr Ratankumar informed that the bridge which would connect Wangoi AC and Mayang Imphal AC is nearing completion and it would be inaugurated within the current month.
For three works awarded to special class contractor JC Kamei, outstanding bill of Rs 25,52,328 has not been paid till date, said Dr Ratankumar in response to a query raised by L Ibomcha.
The bill would be paid once the maintenance fund is sanctioned, he added.
Replying to a question put up by MLA Ksh Biren, Education Minister M Okendro informed that the Government has a plan to adopt Government-aided High Schools.
Under the same plan, Thamboumacha Aided High School would be adopted as a full fledged Government High School.
Plans are also afoot to upgrade Wangoo High School to the level of a High Secondary School, Okendro informed the House.
