It was indeed a pleasure to surf your site, courtsey my young friend
Paramanada, a young behavioural scientist at Hyderabad.
I am not a Manipuri.
Nonetheless, I can assert that I have some great soulmates, who are
Manipuris.
I met Kshetrimayum Kunjabi Singh in 1970 at Calcutta, when
both of us were pursuing higher studies.Kunjabi, a diminutive but highly
energetic and a budding Chartered Accountant would narrate 'stories'
from his land.
He would describe cultural nuances of Manipur, eating
habits, how young people court each other and elope before marriage, law
and order issues.
I met through Kunjabi a lot many other Manipuri
students.
Ningthouzam Mohendra Singh, a student of Psychology, who would go to
Laos much later to teach was another crazy guy.
All of them filled me with Meitei blood.
I had seen Manipuri dance performance earlier but I
knew nothing about Manipur and its' rich heritage.
It took nearly 25 years for me to visit Imphal and teach as a Visiting Faculty at Manipur
University.
I went to Loktak lake; ate some good food and 'saw' Manipur.
I love people of Manipur.
You are a great culture; a proud culture.
I am ashamed that you have not grown monetarily and extrinsically.
But you were RICH always.
Through this mail, I want to touch each one of you; and say that I am proud that I know something about you.
May you all GROW and PROSPER.
