There are 146 condolence messages sent to the family of Late E Nilakanta by various persons and organizations, in this book amongst which W Nipamacha Singh, the then CM of Manipur writes, “Prof Elangbam Nilakanta Singh is a well-known pundit, scholar and critic. He played an active role in the development activities of Manipur culture. He was also associated with various social and cultural organizations. With his sudden demise, the State has lost a valuable scholar”. The book also features 53 articles written by several literateues amongst whom Soyam Lokendrajit writes, “As a sensitive student of culture, Nilakanta knew that Manipur is a unique confluence of cultures, one South Asian represented by Hindu culture and the other South East Asian represented by Meitei culture”. We could know many things about Nilakanta life and works and his feelings. So it would be praiseworthy to bring out such a very useful book. There are twelve articles including letters to the editor which are taken out from the periodicals. The contributions include among others Lamabam Gojendra, Mutua Bahadur, Dr E Dilipkumar, R K Bidur, Manindra Konsam. There are two articles in Bengali extracted from Bengali Newspaper Dainik Yugashangkha and Dainik Sangbad. Last of all, the book features 15 poems of lamentation. Most of these poems were first appeared in Poknapham, a Manipur daily newspaper. |
