Moirang, the birth place of Khamba and Thoibi brings forth poets like NB Konjengba. Konjengba's themes of his poetry are on various subjects. He touches most of the topics like politics, romance, religion, insurgency and so on. The poet creates an imaginary land i.e. the land of paradise where there isn't any enmity amongst the people. Ravana, the demon king respects Rama and Rama, too respects Ravana. Duryodhana and Yudhistra are not enemies. Khamba and Nongban, too treat Thoibi as their own sister. All the evils of the world are removed so that there shouldn't be any war in the place beyond the fence. The fence symbolizes death. Here in this world we all are suffering from sins. So the poet in his vision depicts a world sans sin. Though short, yet this poem has significance. One could remind the popular Shakespearean line, "Life is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury signifying nothing." The last three or four poems featured in the book have the theme of peace. The poet goes through transcendental philosophy. He reminds God and prays for pouring peace in the world. So he writes, 'Please confer on man the love and affection/ I beg you and come to take/ Beg to give peace ..." This is the first stanza of the poem Pinabiyu. The fourth line of the stanza is vague. The construction of the sentence is somewhat loose and it fails to convey a clear meaning. Alliterative lines are composed in some poems like Khongumellei, Nungallei etc. This book from Moirang would soon hit the stalls of the book stores at Imphal. |
