By reading the book we could realize that Samarendra is a strong feminist. Apart from this play, when looking at his other plays, one could easily say that Samarendra's heroines are active girls. Sanahanbi, too, has the same style to the heroine of the plays Mirang. Both the heroines of these plays or the heroine of Judge Sahebki Imung substantiate their claim that women should have to possess the right to self determination. Samarendra is very aware of the stage or the audio or the audio-visual techniques. So he is very slick in weaving the plot and the craftsmanship. We could find wits galore in the dialogues of Samarendra's plays. His plays are realistic as well as intellectual. His play might not be a propaganda play but a propaganda is always hidden behind the plot. There is a close relationship between the audience and the Samarendrian stage. Sanahabi is the daughter of an advocate called Brajamohan. Brajamohan wants to marry his daughter Premkishor, his junior advocate, an affluent young man. On the other hand Sanatombi loves Tondonba, her neighbour, a man living in utter penury, the only son of a widowed mother. Sanatombi strongly denies the force marriage, a traditional culture i.e. to marry a daughter to the father's choice without taking any acceptance. This type of system is a disrespect to the woman's right. A matured woman knows what is good, what is bad, which is wrong, which is right. Sanatombi defeats her father by getting married to Tondonba and substantiates that her love is not an immature romance. |
