a collection of poems in Manipuri with Bengali version written by Sorokhaibam Gambhini of Kamalpur Dholai, Tripura, Published by Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Tripura, Price Rs 30, Page 72 Reviewed by: Konsam Kulladhwaja |
The book features 46 poems. Out of the poems only 12 poems are translated into Bengali. The Bengali readers too could feel that taste of Gambhini's poems in Manipur. The poems were written during the period 1991-2000. Most of the poems were published in current newspapers and journals in anticipation, mentioned the author in the preface of the book ‘Morning shows the day’. In her debut Gambhini could show her bright future in the field of Manipuri poetry. The use of language in her poetry is fully matured. Patriotism and feminism are one of the subjects of her poetry. As she loves the heroes of Manipur, she writes in her poem ‘Kheba Chingi Chingkhongda’, "Taken a firm pledge one day/ Totted the weapon firmly one day/ Many heroes left homes/ For you, the liberty, for you". In another poem called ‘Shahid’, the poetess shows her adoration of Bir Tikendrajit, 'Taking the flag of liberty in hand/ I worship at your feet, the patriot/ On this patriot's day. |
