Edited by R K Mani Singh, Published by Kh Dilip Singh, General Secretary, SILYA in July 2001, Price Rs 40/-, Page 68. Reviewed by: Konsam Kulladhwaja |
This book is one of the three books which have been already brought out during the last trying month in Manipur. The book includes important documents relating to Treaties, Agreements and other Constructive Agreements between States and Indigenous Populations, Territorial jurisdictions of Manipur, Relation between Hill and Valley People of Manipur, Perspectives on Historical Background of Manipur etc. To make the readers realize the facts about the historical integrity of Manipur from the authentic papers of some well known scholars is the primary objective of SILYA, mentioned the Chief Editor. With references to the books like Eastern Frontier of British India (1835) by Captain R B Pemberton, My Experiences in Manipur and Naga Hills by Sir James Johnstone, North-East Frontier of Bengal by Mackenzie, Manipur Itihas (1942) by Panditraj Atombapu Sharma, the boundary of Manipur before its annexation by the British extended larger, to the east beyond the Ningthee or Khwendwen river and west to the plains of Cachar. Not only the parts of Assam and Nagaland but the parts of Eastern China were covered by the Manipuri boundary. In his article A Reflection on the Indo-NSCN (I-M) Ceasefire Extension, RK Mani concludes that the need of the hour for Manipur is to defend her own well recognized culture and civilization in its established territorial jurisdiction at all costs. There were no Nagas (Naga means nakedness) in Manipur but the Tangkhuls, the Kabuis, the Maos etc, claimed Ch Akaba Meetei. |
