The amazing thing about this flood is that it left too much destruction at different areas It killed children too It carried away some children by the swift current of overflowing river water and a child was missing and his body could not be traced The river channels have become narrower Trees have grown into the channels of the river, which block the free movement of the river in spate Naturally the tide created by such block leaves deep impact at the weak riverbank and the portion where such tree is grown is breached Construction of pucca crematorium at the riverbank is also responsible for making the river channel narrower It is time the concerned authority thinks of pulling down all these pucca crematoriums constructed at the riverbank The MLAs should not allocate fund from its local area development if the crematoriums are to be constructed at the riverbank It is really funny why the people of the State are showing keen interest in the construction of pucca crematoriums The amount could have been used in taking up other developmental works This devastating flood will be followed by water scarcity in Manipur, Because we do not have any system to tap the water at source, denudation of forest in the hills of the state is also responsible for rising the river bed as a result the water level rises quickly unlike in the past The new phenomenon of the flood is that it takes lots of time to recede the level of the flood This has something to do with the river channel becoming narrower After the flood phase is over the concerned authority should pay attention to clearing the channel of all the major rivers in the state The rising of BT Road left Khwairamband bazar in a mess All the major shopping centres in the heart of Imphal town remained under the flood water, as there were no system to drain away the accumulating floodwater Even after the level of Nambul river receded the water logging at the area will continue to create pestering problems Germs will be bred The impact of the devastating flood was felt at the remote areas where the major rivers pass through They will continue to suffer for some time more After all the poor state Govt has admitted openly that it does not have anything to fight against such magnitude of flood The Govt however cannot shirk the responsibility of giving help to the worst affected people The areas affected by the flood should be identified and the people at such places should be given help Thousands of people fled their houses in search of dry place Many had to cook on the road as all theirs houses are remaining under the floodwater Relief and rescue works have to be intensified by calling security forces to help the needy people Relief camps have to be opened The affected people should feel the existence of the Government.
