Irom Sharmila Chanu has been refusing to take food orally for the last one year and eight months as she continues to fight for a cause that is lifting of Armed Forces Special Power Act from Manipur. Now she wants to meet the Chief Minister of Manipur. She wants to say something to the Chief Minister. There is no reason as to why the Chief Minister should avoid meeting her. She has suffered a lot. It is time the Government takes steps to end her fast and to enable her to lead a normal life. She has sacrificed her prime time for a cause. No sacrifice will be as great as the one made by Sharmila. She has shown that the most important thing in life is to fight for a cause. The demand may be fulfilled or not. Like the great saint who was in search for the truth and the God she tested her own will power and commitment to fight for a cause and she has succeeded in it. It is now time she reviews her own decision to continue to fight for the cause. She will be remembered forever as long as the Sun and the Moon shine in the sky. As she narrates how she remained in the jail, the other women sitting by her side at the Meira paibi building at Kongba shed tears. They remained dumbfounded unable to know what to do in such situation. Sharmila should be asked when and how she would end the fast. She knows that the lifting of the Act is not as easy as it sounds to be. Her relentless fight has awakened the minds of the people that many things can be achieved if one fights seriously. She decided to fight all alone without seeking the help from others. She fought. She has won. Her undaunting and relentless spirit have shown that human will power cannot be challenged by any force. She has reached the status of the saint. The message she gives is loud and clear. She does not want to see evils in the society. She says she feels pain at heart when she hears the news of corruption and killing. She is a really precious. We cannot afford to loose her. The Government should do everything possible to end her fast. The Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh should meet this brave girl to know what she has to tell. She has something to say to the Chief Minister. Sharmila should also think of changing her mind if she can get the right assurance from the Chief Minister. Even Mahatma Gandhi broke her silence when the Hindus and Muslims stopped their communal frenzy. The entire people irrespective of age, religion, caste and creed should approach the fasting girl to end her fight saying they will take up the fight on her behalf. This is the assurance she wants from the people. Let us do something to end her fast. She has suffered enough.
