Workshop on 'Managing Livelihood and Social Protection' at Dhanamanjuri Community College
A 5 day long workshop on “Managing Livelihood and Social Protection” kicks off from this morning, the 10th June 2019 at Dhanamanjuri Community College, D M College of Science Campus, Imphal.
The inaugural function of the Training Workshop was attended by the Director of University and Higher Education, Government of Manipur Shri W Malemnganba Chenglei, IAS as Chief Guest, Dr N Surjitkumar, Head, Department of Tribal studies of the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Regional Campus Manipur as the Guest of Honour and the Director, DDU Centre for KAUSHAL at DM Community College Dr. Raheijuddin Sheikh presided over the Inaugural function.
Dr Otojit Kshetrimayum, Coordinator of the Centre for North East India, VV Giri National Labour Institute, Noida presented the key note address highlighting the need for conducting the workshop.
The workshop is organized by the Centre for North East India, VV Giri National Labour Institute, Noida in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Regional Campus Manipur and Dhanamanjuri Community College at DM College of Science, Imphal.
About 70 delegates from various institutes in North Eastern region are participating at the Training Workshop which would continue till the 14th June 2019. Resource Persons from various pools of activities are being engaged in the sessions followed by discussions and presentations of the delegates.
Dr Otojit Kshetrimayum in his key note address emphasized on the issues of poverty and unemployment in the North East in general and in Manipur in particular. He also reiterated the need to generate awareness on social protection and livelihood security for the youths in Manipur. He encouraged the participants to take up studies related to the issues of social protection of the people in this part of the Country for understanding the impact and challenges in the effective implementation of various welfare schemes.
Shri W Malemnganba Chenglei expressed the need of such programme which would help the scholars and students to make understand about various schemes and initiatives taken up by government. He emphasized on the role of the education sector more particularly, the Higher Education Department in fulfilment of the targeted goals.
Dr N Surjitkumar emphasised the need of harnessing the potentials of various young entrepreneurs coming up in the state of Manipur. He also urged that the youth should not only continue to confine to into the government services but also to engage themselves in various skill development and self-employment activities.
Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh in his presidential address highlighted the various skill based vocational programmes in the higher education sector which are being undertaken at the Dhanamanjuri Community College. Reiterating the need for harnessing the natural resources available in the North Eastern part of the country with proper skilling of the youths of the region, he emphasized on the relevance of the courses running in the Community College with the ongoing workshop.
