Won't fight elections ever again: Sharmila
The Telegraph | Khelen Thockchom | Imphal, March 11:
After the defeat, Sharmila, a staunch crusader for the repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, swore never to fight elections ever again. "I am fed up with this political system. I have decided to quit active politics. I will move to South India as I need to calm my mind," Sharmila told PTI.
A picture of defiance that the state just months ago had struggled to contain, she today found herself even below the score of the rejects: Sharmila 90, NOTA 143, her saving grace Leishangthem Suresh Singh of the Trinamul who garnered 144 votes and an Independent, Akoijam Manglemjao Singh, who trailed her with 66.
