Whom to blame for the forgotten life-road
Romeo Shekho *
The road that divert from NH-2 at Maram bazaar known by the people as Koide-Purul road is the only road that connect to a hundreds of Poumai villages and the only road for a thousand souls.
It is a road which my fore-fathers dig by their own bare hand, drudge and toils with their sweat. It passes through from villages to villages and not to forget it is the only road that cross the two major river Barak and Iril river.
It wriggles its way over the mountain saddles, through an eerie scary tunnel. Thousand of souls walk and stroll on this road for their livelihood. But the road is in unsealed gravel. An adventurer who wants to visit Poumai land cannot avoid this road and it is the only road that reaches to almost all the Poumai villages.
My great-great grandfathers who toils this road with their own bare hand died. My great grandfathers who widen this road by spade and dao died.
My grandfather who fixes this road for a vehicle to run also died but no pitied government eye looks into it. Their voice were never heard by anyone but died down within themselves.
But after a thousand soul who waited like a hungry fox passed away there comes a brave heart D.D. Thaisii MLA of 47 Karong who came with a black top till Purul, where no one belief whether it’s an another wake up dreams or a real.
I heard the laughter and show the smile of the people who travel in the taxi from Purul to Maram via Koide. I heard the whisper of an old creepeth man that ‘he can die with a peaceful heart’. Every passengers in the taxi that run through this road only discussed that they are traveling heaven on earth.
But the mysterious ‘samachar’ after a decade is that, that heaven on earth road turn into road of hell now. It has been dug up and left in a poor state for more than a decade now.
Not only does it present a hazard to vehicles but it’s a sight for sore eyes, not to mention the loss of business to all the business man. Why has this road been left in this condition for such a long time is the question now for every young and old, man and woman.
“Whom to blame now for this forgotten life road”? Is it our Uncle Modiji, Prime Minister of India that we should blame for, because he didn’t sanction any budget for transportation and communication in the north east state?
Or is it Uncle O. Ibobi, Chief Minister of Manipur that we should blame for, because he didn’t divert all the money from his account for the development of tribal areas?
Or is it our MLA that we should blame for, because he never come and visit our road and see how pathetic it is?
Or is it the contractor that we should put our blame, because they never do the quality work but just finished up with a 3% work done and clear out their bills?
Or do we have to blame to the Public leaders, because they took their share and give an account with a make up story?
Or shall we blame to the public, because they never have unity among themselves but divided with the political feeling and never care for the common gains and have a mindset of ‘You die I live, you loss but I’ll gain.
Or shall we all blame to the religious leaders and the mission workers that they never genuinely pray for the leaders and people, because they are busy for their family livelihood?
Whom shall we blame? Whom shall we blame?
It’s about time someone did something about this disgusting situation once and for all. Do we have to wait for another accident to happen and there a blood to be shed before it is repair.
Or do we have to wait God to do some miracles that this upsy-downsy road turns into New York highway road. But so sorry God only help those who help themselves.
So whosoever hear this message, either Prime Minister, Chief Minister, MLA, Contractor, Public Leaders, Religious leaders or a housewife or you and me.
It is a wake up call that we should do something for your brothers and sisters who are suffering to pass that forgotten life-road.
After all you will experience a road that hugs the rugged contours of the beautiful countryside and the land that provide a natural roller coaster.
