Who will succeed Khaplang? Delhi on edge over new NSCN (K) head
Nagaland Post | Agencies | Guwahati, Jun 16 ()
Who will succeed Shangwang Shangyung Khaplang as the head of NSCN (K)? This is a question that worries Delhi more than the outfit itself after the country’s most wanted insurgent leader died of prolonged illness at the outfit’s headquarters at Taka in Myanmar on June 9.
India stands to win its final battle for permanent peace in Nagaland if it could have an Indian Naga instead of one from Myanmar as the head of the Myanmar-based outfit, which is the last of the Naga insurgent groups outside the peace process, reported TNN.
“Government of India or government of Nagaland can only talk to Indian citizens and about only Indian territory. They can’t talk with Myanmarese Naga or Myanmar’s territory. So it will be in the interest of government of India to have an Indian Naga taking charge of NSCN (K) rather than a Naga from Myanmar,” a source said.
