Who is the 'Naga Crusader' ?
- Hueiyen Lanpao Editorial :: June 24 2011 -
News reports in Imphal dailies carried a story about a hitherto unknown Naga organization which identified itself as an entity directing Meiteis to vacate from staying or residing in the Naga districts of Manipur.
This live wire was sparked off by an e-mail statement sent on behalf of a hitherto unheard of Naga political body which styled itself as 'Naga Crusader'. The deadline it set was July 10, 2011.
This e-mailed statement was promptly published by the Nagaland Post. In a follow up, the Nagaland Post in an indecent haste has struggled to separate itself from the 'Naga Crusader'.
It has termed the 'Naga Crusader' as a 'mischievous organisation' and that it apologises printing its statement.
Would the responsible editorial staff of the Nagaland Post have entertained an e-mailed statement of an organization which it now feels safer to define as 'mischievous' ?
Only a few upstarts among Manipuri journalists consider Nagaland Post as credit worthy. Many regard it untrustworthy.
In other words apart from the few mad men who drink the emotional and financial juice of Nagaland Post nobody else cares two hoots about it.
Can the claim that an unchecked, and unverified e-mail statement be published pronto and denied complicity equally fast ?
What are we to believe ? Our belief is simple, the Nagaland Post should be brought to court.
Either they are serving the commands of a self styled monster, or they are thoroughbred nincompoops. One means, there is a limit to twisted explanations.
Would it not be saner to consider a scenario whether the 'Naga Crusader' really exists ?
And that it is being backed up by the virulent forms hell bent on dismantling Manipur ?
And that, if its body form does not exist within Manipur, breathes heavily on fires stoked by guardians of 'a unique culture' ?
If the Nagaland Post had carried a story backed by an outfit which considers itself to be a fountain head of universal wisdom, it should be lashed back to the nitty gritty of reality.
And if the government of Nagaland explains its inaction because it had been taking a political siesta, the truth of cold water should be poured on till it wakes up from its pretended sleep.
Meanwhile, to all Manipuris, both in Nagaland and the 'Naga districts' of Manipur, we as fellow citizens appeal that you remain alert, but do not act under provocation.
We are being harried by people who have just felt the ropes of genteel living. Remember Shakespeare's play 'The Tempest', Calibans do not win.
Let us remove the grain from the chaff.
There are many Nagas closely attached to us in a common history. They should not be and cannot be let down.
Let us never forget to protect our hill brethren in the time of need. Hand in hand, we will stand, and we shall overcome.
We are made of sterner stuff.
