Where the sun does not shine in the sky
K. Radhakumar *
I will not sing the praises
Of the common people
Of the weaker people.
Praise or no praise makes no difference.
Everyday is just an ordinary day
To the common people
To the weaker people.
The shop glitters
Like water in the sunlight.
'Can I help you?'
It is the salesman.
'No thanks. I'm just looking.'
Just looking.
One just lives one's life.
There is no arguing with the stronger people;
There is no protection from the predators
Lurking in the dark side streets
In our parks
At our homes.
Muggings and rape and murder
Even in broad daylight.
The tribe with the greater firepower
Attacking and annihilating the smaller tribe.
We are addicted to evil.
The problems of evil!
Ah! No philosophical solution for me, please.
Cultural revolution
As man's final deliverance from evil!
Do we bring civilization
By practising a sort of cannibalism
The stronger eating the weaker alive
In the sphere of comfortable ways of life
