We the Indians
Bishwajit Khumukcham *
Me and my Nagaland friend,
Were walking through the Campus.
He said, "I heard she is to be released tomorrow".
"Who?" I asked.
"Irom Sharmila, the iron lady of Manipur."
"To be caught again the next day", I said.
"Aren't they afraid she would sneak away?" he asked.
"Even if she does, they don't care. She is harmless, she has been fasting for the past 10 years now, and they care no more."
He said, "But I heard they haven't even revealed the whereabouts of Meghan."
I said, "He has guns so he is dangerous."
He said firmly, "But I heard she too has Gandhi's will and way, that's more powerful."
"Which Gandhi?"
"Mahatma obviously"
I said, "I thought Sonia Gandhi, see they don't care about Gandhi's non-violence way no more"
Then he asked, "Do you believe in our independent nations, our own separate identity and all this?"
I said, "They keep reminding us again and again."
"NO", he said, "we are as Indians as they are and they our brothers just like you and me."
Then we heard someone from the back calling "Chinky" and laughing at their own single worded joke.
