Unresolved Issues
- Hueiyen Lanpao Editorial :: September 10, 2014 -
With full of unresolved issues, the strife-torn State of Manipur in the Northeast, they say, is a true paradise for news hunters.
But these unresolved issues which overlap one another, have dragged down the State further into an endless cycle of deepening crises.
All these crises may not affect those in power or power-that-be, but each of these unresolved issues and their resultant crises have made the common people suffered all the more.
But who cares from them?
While the cancellation of the proposed talks between the Government of Manipur and the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) over the latter’s demand for suspending an immature and indiscipline young woman police officer from her service for her unruly conduct without ever taking advantage of hearing what the Government has to say on an important issue on which the future of the indigenous people in the State hinges was simply unfortunate; the triple-ambush laid by suspected armed cadres of NSCN (IM) on the State police forces who are retreating from the so-called ‘militarised’ Ukhrul town on Tuesday has once again brought forth the question of whether any of the collective leadership and their hangers-on who are supposedly fighting for the cause of the common men and women in the society do actually care for these same common men and women in the society?
As we have stated through this column earlier, the aberrations created by an immature and indiscipline young women should not be given such great importance so as to overshadow an important talk, we feel that by cancelling the proposed talks with the Government, leaders of JCILPS have deprived the people of the golden opportunity to know the exact stand of the Government on their demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit system in the State or at least put in place some mechanism to protect themselves from the onslaught of ever increasing influx of outsiders.
Instead of jumping into the conclusion that the whole incident has been orchestrated by the Government to sideline the real issue in hand and then calling yet another round of general strike to make the people, who are yet to come in term with the UNC-sponsored ongoing economic blockade along the National Highways, suffer all the more, JCILPS leaders could have acted in a little more mature and responsible manner.
Talking of unresolved issues, we also feel that UNC and its affiliated organisations, which are supposedly working for the cause of Naga brethren but could not speak and see nothing beyond what they are tutored to do so, definitely owe an explanation to the suffering multitude living both in the hills and the valley districts of Manipur in the light of the latest brutal armed attacks carried out by suspected armed cadres of NSCN (IM) on the retreating State security forces on the very soil of Ukhrul district in which they have been crying hoarse against the alleged ‘militarisation’ by a ‘communal’ Government.
Is that also going to be blamed as yet another handiwork of the ‘communal’ Government and its Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister?
Yes, blaming others could be easier, but that would only add up to the number of unresolved issues.
